WHY DO WE NEED AN INTERNATIONAL EURASIER UNION?

More than forty years ago the idea arose to create a new breed of dogs which should combine the following two extremes: firstly to preserve the appearance of the so-called original-type and secondly to fulfil the requirements of today's dog-keeping.

Julius Wipfel, "father" of this breed, developed the basic idea. With plenty of idealism he succeeded in convincing suitable partners to co-operate with him to create the breed Eurasier. Soon, however, the people involved split up into different groups and each group continued breeding with relatively small numbers of dogs. The different ideas of these groups of breeders led to todays situation that the Eurasier differs in appearance and character - not only in Germany but also in Europe and internationally. The breeding aim, stipulated at the beginning, was to breed a family-dog with the typical features of the polar dog. Then it became obvious that the breeders chose different ways to achieve this initial aim, thus causing the above mentioned diversity of the Eurasier.

What did survive, however, was the enthusiasm to breed this exceptional dog and this has to be kept alive and promoted.
Julius Wipfel, now in his early eighties, is still very much involved with "his" Eurasier and keeps himself well informed about the developments. At the beginning of the year 2000 he approached the represantatives of the different groups within Germany and abroad.

He mentioned his wish of an International Union which should deal with all aspects regarding the Eurasier and his people. He was dreaming of an international umbrella to guarantee that the original aims would not get lost. The responsibility everyone feels towards this wonderful dog must be a strong enough bond to hold the different interest groups together.

The idea to found such an International Eurasier Union in the year 2000 when we celebrate "40 years of Eurasier breeding" appealed to him and he was at once prepared to assist.

With each and every member and supporter the number of people ready to pursue the original aims will increase. Thus we will constitute an international community of like-minded Eurasier friends.
